Endodontics? What’s that?
Endodontics is the treatment of root canals once the decay has gotten all the way through to the tooth marrow and damaged it. A tooth after endodontic treatment is very fragile and we therefore recommend to have it treated with a ceramic or metal-ceramic crown.
When is endodontic treatment necessary?
Well, there are several situations.
If a bacterial infection gets all the way to the marrow and infects it, root canal treatment is necessary. In other cases, such as traumatic damage following an accident, the tooth is structurally damaged and the marrow is exposed. Endodontic treatment is also performed to preserve pillars for prosthetic work.
