MINI IMPLANTS WILL BRING JOY BACK INTO YOUR LIFE
If your dental prosthesis is loose at times, it may very easily lead to a lack of self-esteem when communicating with those around you. Perhaps more importantly, it’s also hard to eat some kinds of food, as pieces often get stuck under the prosthesis. This often leads to digestive problems and a diminished appetite.
However, the solution to all of these problems is quite simple and also reasonably priced.
WHAT MINI IMPLANTS ARE AND WHAT ARE THEY FOR
Mini implants (also known as MDI – mini dental implants) are reliable and proven way of stabilising your prosthesis. MDIs have been used in the US for more than 20 years and are growing ever more popular in Slovakia, too. And there’s little to be surprised about: the price is low and MDIs really are great.
Inserting the MDIs is painless and done under local anaesthesia. It is a non-invasive treatment which doesn’t take more than 90 minutes to be completed. Inserting MDIs is not a complicated surgery of any kind.
WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MINI DENTAL IMPLANTS AND USUAL IMPLANTS?
Well, size is the basic difference. The usual titanium implant is 3.75 mm in diameter, while an MDI is only 1.8 to 2.4 mm in diameter. A very thin or weakened bone or jaw is thus enough – usual implants could never have been used there. With MDIs you can often start using your prosthesis right away, while the healing process with normal implants takes a few weeks or even months.
MINI IMPLANT TECHNOLOGY
MDIs are miniature biocompatible screws made from a special titanium alloy. These are inserted into the jaw. The material used is biologically neutral, so no allergic reaction is possible. The head of each implant is ball-shaped and serves to fix the prosthesis with a gum ring.
The ring is a part of the prosthesis and serves as a tiny hole which holds it. If inserted properly, it relies on the gums and resists the natural forces trying to lift it or move it to the sides. An accidental movement is thus not possible and the prosthesis is removed at night.
The implants are inserted into a small hole. The shape of the screw itself guarantees great stability of the implant, so it’s possible to start using the prosthesis that very day. Altogether, 10 MDIs are inserted – four for the lower and 6 fort he upper jaw. It is, however, possible to fix the prosthesis for each jaw separately.
WHEN IS MINI IMPLANT A GOOD IDEA?
Mini implants solve several problems at the same time, especially those that our clients with prostheses are very familiar with. Prostheses may fall out when chewing and you may fear it also becomes loose while you talk.
WHO CAN USE THEM?
Well, pretty much anyone. It may happen you lose all of your teeth, be it due to illness, periodontitis, osteoporosis or congenital genetic diseases. In these cases, a removable prosthesis is the best solution, but it’s not completely safe, as it can become loose quite simply. There are a few glues on the market, but they don’t quite solve the problem, as they may dissolve when eating, too.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO HAVE MINI IMPLANTS INSERTED?
It all depends from how many mini implants you need. Inserting a maximum number of ten usually takes an hour and a half.
WHEN CAN I START USING MY PROSTHESIS AFTER THE TREATMENT
Straight away, basically. Inserting MDIs doesn’t lead to swelling. You may feel a slight tension for a few days, slight swelling of your gums as well as a little bit of pain is possible too, but once you leave our clinic, you’ll be able to talk and eat with no problems.
ARE ANY COMPLICATIONS POSSIBLE DURING OR AFTER THE TREATMENT?
Very rarely, to be honest. There’s roughly a 1% chance that the root doesn’t connect to the bone. Should this be the case, you’ll feel something is not quite right, but won’t feel no pain. It is then possible to insert new MDIs in three months. Obviously, this is covered by our guarantee with no extra costs.
SHOULD I TAKE CARE OF MY MINI IMPLANTS?
Well, of course and it’s quite important. Just like your prosthesis, you need to keep them clean. A special interdental brush will do a perfect job and make sure that your MDIs remain as shiny as ever.
